CONTENT
The bill would amend Part 217 of the Public Health Code, which provides for the regulation of nursing homes by the Department of Consumer and Industry Services, to allow the Department to consult and work with the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) in performing the Department's regulatory and disciplinary duties under Part 217. The Department also could contract with the MPHI for the performance of specific functions required or authorized by Part 217, if determined necessary by the Department Director.
(Public Act 264 of 1989 amended the Code to allow the Department to establish a nonprofit corporation (the MPHI) to plan, promote, and coordinate health services research with a State university or consortium of State universities, and to research, evaluate, and demonstrate objectives specified in the Act.)
