COUNTY PARKS & REC COMMISSION - H.B. 5843: FLOOR ANALYSIS

House Bill 5843 (as reported without amendment)

Sponsor: Representative John Pappageorge

First House Committee: Local Government and Urban Policy

Second House Committee: Conservation and Outdoor Recreation

Senate Committee: Local, Urban and State Affairs

CONTENT

The bill would amend Public Act 261 of 1965, which provides for the creation of county parks and recreation commissions, to provide that in a county that elected a county executive, that county executive or a designee (instead of the chairperson of the county planning commission) would have to serve as a member of the county parks and recreation commission. In a county with a population of 1 million or less, the chairperson of the county planning commission still would have to serve as a member of the county parks and recreation commission.

Currently, a county parks and recreation commission must consist of the chairperson of the county road commission or another road commissioner designated by the board of the county road commissioners; the county drain commissioner; the chairperson of the county planning commission; and seven members appointed by the county board of commissioners, including one to three who are members of the county board of commissioners.
