A bill to amend 1962 PA 60, entitled "An act to provide for the day parole of prisoners in county jails to permit them to be gainfully employed outside the jail or pursue other activities; to provide for the granting of reduc- tions in terms of imprisonment and the regulation thereof; and to provide for the disposition of earnings from such employment," by amending sections 2 and 4 (MCL 801.252 and 801.254). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 2. The sheriff, or friend of the court in alimony or 2 nonsupport cases, shall collect the wages or salary of an 3 employed prisoner, or require him OR HER to turn over his OR HER 4 wages or salary in full when received. The officer shall deposit 5 thesameWAGES OR SALARY in a trust checking account and keep a 6 ledger showing the status of the account of each prisoner. The 7 wages or salaryareIS not subject to garnishment in the hands 8 of the employer or the officer during the prisoner's term EXCEPT 9 THAT THE WAGES OR SALARY IS SUBJECT TO GARNISHMENT WHILE IN THE 00374'99 a * TLG 2 1 HANDS OF THE SHERIFF IF THE GARNISHMENT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF 2 SATISFYING AN ORDER OF A COURT OF THIS STATE TO PAY COURT COSTS 3 OR FEES. 4 Sec. 4. The sheriff or friend of the court shall disburse 5 the wages or salary of an employed prisoner for only the follow- 6 ing purposes in the FOLLOWING order:stated:7 (a) Board of the prisoner.;8 (b) Necessary travel expense to and from work and other 9 incidental expenses of the prisoner.;10 (c) Support of the prisoner's dependents, if any.;11 (d) Payment, either in full or ratably, of the prisoner's 12 obligations, acknowledged byhimTHE PRISONER in writing, or 13 which have been reduced to judgment,;INCLUDING COMPLYING WITH 14 GARNISHMENT FOR THE RECOVERY OF COURT-ORDERED COSTS OR FEES AS 15 ALLOWED UNDER SECTION 2. 16 (e) The balance, if any, to the prisoner upon his OR HER 17 discharge. 18 Enacting section 1.
