HOUSE BILL No. 4288 February 23, 1999, Introduced by Rep. Koetje and referred to the Committee on Senior Health, Security and Retirement. A bill to amend 1967 PA 156, entitled "Optional retirement act of 1967," by amending section 2 (MCL 38.382), as amended by 1994 PA 296. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 2. As used in this act: 2 (a) "Optional retirement program" means a system of retire- 3 ment benefits established as a part of the plan of compensation 4 for eligible teaching and administrative personnel. 5 (b) "Retirement system" means the Michigan public school 6 employees' retirement system created by the public school employ- 7 ees retirement act of 1979,Act No. 300 of the Public Acts of81980, being sections 38.1301 to 38.1408 of the Michigan Compiled9Laws1980 PA 300, MCL 38.1301 TO 38.1408. 10 (c) "Eligible employees" means the members of the faculty 11 and administrative staff of state supported institutions of 00280'99 KKR 2 1 higher educationon a full-time basiswhose positions require 2 the performance of professional services in the discharge of the 3 educational or administrative functions of the institution. 4 (d) "State supported institution of higher education" means 5 any of the following: 6 (i) Western Michigan university. 7 (ii) Eastern Michigan university. 8 (iii) Northern Michigan university. 9 (iv) Central Michigan university. 10 (v) Michigan technological university. 11 (vi) Ferris state university. 12 (vii) Lake Superior state university. 13 (viii) A community or junior college established pursuant to 14 section 7 of article VIII of the state constitution of 1963. 15 (ix) A community or junior college established pursuant to 16 part 25 of the REVISED school code,of 1976, Act No. 451 of the17Public Acts of 1976, being sections 380.1601 to 380.1607 of the18Michigan Compiled Laws1976 PA 451, MCL 380.1601 TO 380.1607. 19 (e) "Board of control" means the board charged with policy 20 direction of a state supported institution of higher education. 00280'99 Final page.
