Mortimer, Vander Roest, Vear, Daniels, Birkholz, Cameron Brown and Raczkowski and referred to the Committee on Transportation.


        A bill to designate the part of M-53 located between 18 Mile

   road and 27 Mile road in Macomb county as the "Doug Carl Memorial

   Freeway"; and to prescribe the duties of the state transportation

   department.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 1.  The part of M-53 located between 18 Mile road and

 2    27 Mile road in Macomb county shall be known as the "Doug Carl

 3    Memorial Freeway".

 4         Sec. 2.  The state transportation department shall only pro-

 5    vide for the erection of suitable markers at the approach to the

 6    part of the freeway described in section 1 indicating the name of

 7    that part of the freeway when 1 or both of the following occur:

 8         (a) The department erects new signage to replace old signage

 9    in the course of ordinary maintenance.

 1         (b) Sufficient private contributions are received to pay the
