        A bill to amend 1846 RS 16, entitled

   "Of the powers and duties of townships, the election and duties
   of township officers, and the division of townships,"

   by amending section 97 (MCL 41.97), as amended by 1989 PA 77.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 97.  (1) The supervisor, if present, shall be the mod-

 2    erator of  an  A REGULAR, annual, or special township meeting of

 3    the electors.  , and if he or she 

 4         (2) IF THE SUPERVISOR is not present, the meeting, under the

 5    direction of the township clerk, shall elect by voice vote  ,  a

 6    moderator of the meeting.  However, the  THE township clerk has

 7    the same powers and duties as the moderator until a moderator is

 8    chosen.
