        A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

   "The revised school code,"

   by amending section 1101 (MCL 380.1101), as amended by 1995 PA

   289.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 1         Sec. 1101.  (1)  A  EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE
             PROVIDED IN SUBSEC-

 2    TION (2), A school elector in a school district is eligible to

 3    election or appointment to office in that school district.

 4         (2) IF A PERSON IS CONVICTED OF A FELONY, THE PERSON IS NOT

 5    ELIGIBLE FOR ELECTION OR APPOINTMENT TO OFFICE IN A SCHOOL DIS-

 6    TRICT FOR A PERIOD OF 20 YEARS AFTER THE DATE OF THE CONVICTION.

 7         (3)  (2)  The term of office of each member of
             a board of

 8    education shall commence on July 1, or on January 1 if the

 9    election is in November, and shall continue until a successor is
