A bill to amend 1996 PA 193, entitled "Michigan do-not-resuscitate procedure act," by amending section 2 (MCL 333.1052). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 2. As used in this act: 2 (a) "Attending physician" means the physician who has pri- 3 mary responsibility for the treatment and care of a declarant. 4 (b) "Declarant" means a person who has executed a 5 do-not-resuscitate order or on whose behalf a do-not-resuscitate 6 order has been executed pursuant to AS PROVIDED IN section 3 or 7 5. 8 (c) "Do-not-resuscitate order" means a document executed 9 pursuant to AS PRESCRIBED IN section 3 or 5 directing that, in 10 the event that a patient suffers cessation of both spontaneous 11 respiration and circulation in a setting outside of a hospital, a 03897'99 GWH 2 1 nursing home, or a mental health facility owned or operated by 2 the department of community health, no resuscitation will NOT 3 be initiated. 4 (d) "Do-not-resuscitate identification bracelet" or 5 "identification bracelet" means a wrist bracelet that meets the 6 requirements of section 7 and is worn by the declarant while a 7 do-not-resuscitate order is in effect. 8 (e) "Emergency medical technician" means that term as 9 defined in section 20904 of the public health code, being sec- 10 tion 333.20904 of the Michigan Compiled Laws MCL 333.20904. 11 (f) "Emergency medical technician specialist" means that 12 term as defined in section 20904 of the public health code, MCL 13 333.20904. 14 (g) "Hospital" means that term as defined in section 20106 15 of the public health code, being section 333.20106 of the 16 Michigan Compiled Laws MCL 333.20106. 17 (h) "Medical first responder" means that term as defined in 18 section 20906 of the public health code, being section 333.20906 19 of the Michigan Compiled Laws MCL 333.20906. 20 (i) "Nurse" means a licensed practical nurse or a registered 21 professional nurse as defined in section 17201 of the public 22 health code, being section 333.17201 of the Michigan Compiled 23 Laws MCL 333.17201. 24 (j) "Order" means a do-not-resuscitate order. 25 (k) "Organization" means a company, corporation, firm, part- 26 nership, association, trust, or other business entity or a 27 governmental agency. 03897'99 3 1 (l) "Paramedic" means that term as defined in section 20908 2 of the public health code, being section 333.20908 of the 3 Michigan Compiled Laws MCL 333.20908. 4 (m) "Physician" means an individual licensed to engage in 5 the practice of medicine or the practice of osteopathic medicine 6 and surgery pursuant to article 15 of the public health code, 7 being sections 333.16101 to 333.18838 of the Michigan Compiled 8 Laws MCL 333.16101 TO 333.18838. 9 (n) "Patient advocate" means an individual designated to 10 make medical treatment decisions for a patient under section 496 11 of the revised probate code, Act No. 642 of the Public Acts of 12 1978, being section 700.496 of the Michigan Compiled Laws 13 SECTIONS 5506 TO 5512 OF THE ESTATES AND PROTECTED INDIVIDUALS 14 CODE, 1998 PA 386, MCL 700.5506 TO 700.5512. 15 (o) "Public health code" means Act No. 368 of the Public 16 Acts of 1978, being sections 333.1101 to 333.25211 of the 17 Michigan Compiled Laws 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.1101 TO 333.25211. 18 (p) "Vital sign" means a pulse or evidence of respiration. 19 Enacting section 1.
