A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending section 16621 (MCL 333.16621), as amended by 1998 PA 436. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 16621. (1) The Michigan board of dentistry is created 2 in the department. Subject to subsection (2), the boardshall3consistCONSISTS of the following1519 voting members who 4shallmeet the requirements of part 161: 5 (a)SevenEIGHT dentists.OneSUBJECT TO SUBSECTION 6 (3), 1 or more of the dentists appointed under this subdivision 7 may have a health profession specialty certification issued under 8 section 16608. 05082'99 ** CPD 2 1 (b)TwoSUBJECT TO SUBSECTION (3), 2 dentists who have 2 been issued a health profession specialty certification under 3 section 16608. 4 (c)TwoFOUR dental hygienists. 5 (d) Two dental assistants. 6 (e)TwoTHREE public members. 7 (2) A dentist, DENTAL HYGIENIST, PUBLIC MEMBER, OR OTHER 8 INDIVIDUAL who is a member of the boardas ofON the effective 9 date of the amendatory act that addedthis subsection1 ADDI- 10 TIONAL DENTIST, 2 ADDITIONAL DENTAL HYGIENISTS, AND 1 ADDITIONAL 11 PUBLIC MEMBER TO THE BOARD may serve out his or her term. 12 (3) The board meeting dates and times shall be concurred in 13 by a vote of not less than1213 board members. Not more than 14 1 member of the board may be a dental school faculty member. 15 (4) A board member licensed to practice as a dental hygien- 16 ist or a dental assistantshall voteVOTES as an equal member 17 of the board in all matters except those designated in section 18 16148(1) or (2) that apply ONLY to dentists and not to dental 19 hygienists or dental assistants. 20(5) It is the intent of the legislature to have the depart-21ment of consumer and industry services review the composition of22the board of dentistry by April 30, 1999.
