A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 909 (MCL 257.909). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 909. (1)AEXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN THIS SEC- 2 TION, A civil fine which is ordered under section 907 for a vio- 3 lation of this act or other state statute shall be exclusively 4 applied to the support of public libraries and county law librar- 5 ies in the same manner as is provided by law for penal fines 6 assessed and collected for violation of a penal law of the 7 state. 8 (2) Subsection (1) is intended to maintain a source of reve- 9 nue for public libraries which previously received penal fines 10 for misdemeanor violations of this act which are now civil 11 infractions. 03610'99 a TJS 2 1 (3) A CIVIL FINE ORDERED UNDER SECTION 907 FOR A VIOLATION 2 OF SECTION 682 SHALL BE CREDITED TO A RESTRICTED SCHOOL DISTRICT 3 BUS FLEET REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT CREATED IN THE STATE TREASURY. 4 UPON APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY, MONEY IN THE 5 ACCOUNT SHALL BE USED TO REIMBURSE A SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE COST 6 OF COMPLYING WITH THE REQUIREMENT OF PLACEMENT OF THE SIGN 7 REQUIRED BY SECTION 35(2) OF THE PUPIL TRANSPORTATION ACT, 1990 8 PA 187, MCL 257.1835. THIS SUBSECTION APPLIES UNTIL EACH SCHOOL 9 DISTRICT IN THIS STATE HAS COMPLIED WITH THIS REQUIREMENT. ANY 10 MONEY REMAINING IN THE ACCOUNT AT THAT TIME SHALL BE EXCLUSIVELY 11 APPLIED TO THE SUPPORT OF PUBLIC LIBRARIES AND COUNTY LAW LIBRAR- 12 IES AS PROVIDED IN SUBSECTION (1). 13 Enacting section 1.
