A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 795b (MCL 168.795b), as amended by 1990 PA 109. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 795b. (1) Ballot labels shall be printed or displayed 2 in plain, clear, black type on white surface. Questions may be 3 printed or displayed on red tinted surface and the names of can- 4 didates for nonpartisan offices on blue tinted surface. County 5 questions may be printed or displayed on green tinted surface and 6 local questions may be printed or displayed on buff surface. In 7 a primary election to identify each political party, the titles 8 of offices and the names of candidates may be arranged in 9 vertical columns or in a series of separate pages or displays. 10 The office title with a statement of the number of candidates to 01035'99 KKR 2 1 be voted for shall be printed or displayed above or at the side 2 of the names of the candidates for that office. The offices and 3 candidates shall be printed or displayed in the order provided by 4 law, or if no such provision is made, in the order prescribed by 5 the board of election commissioners of the county, city, village, 6 township, or school district. If there are more candidates for 7 an office than can be printed or displayed in 1 column or on 1 8 page or display, the ballot label shall be clearly marked that 9 the list of candidates is continued on the following column, 10 page, or display, and so far as possible, the same number of 11 names shall be printed or displayed on each column, page, or 12 display. Arrows or other directional signs may be used to indi- 13 cate the place to vote for each candidate or question. FOR PAR- 14 TISAN CANDIDATES, THE TYPEFACE USED TO PRINT THE POLITICAL PARTY 15 DESIGNATION FOR EACH CANDIDATE LISTED ON THE BALLOT SHALL MEET 1 16 OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS, WHICHEVER IS SMALLER: 17 (A) BE AT LEAST 12-POINT TYPEFACE. 18 (B) BE AT LEAST THE SIZE OF THE TYPEFACE USED FOR THE 19 CANDIDATE'S NAME. 20 (2) Ballots that are processed through electronic tabulating 21 equipment after the elector has voted shall have an attached, 22 numbered, perforated stub. 01035'99 Final page.
