A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled "The code of criminal procedure," by amending section 24 of chapter VII (MCL 767.24), as amended by 1987 PA 255. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 CHAPTER VII 2 Sec. 24. (1) An indictment for the crime of murder may be 3 found at any period TIME after the death of the person alleged 4 to have been murdered. Indictments AN INDICTMENT for the 5 crimes CRIME of kidnapping, extortion, assault with intent to 6 commit murder, and OR conspiracy to commit murder shall be 7 found and filed within 10 years after the commission of the 8 offense. Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2), all 9 other indictments AN INDICTMENT FOR ANY OTHER CRIME shall be 10 found and filed within 6 years after the commission of the 06808'00 TLG 2 1 offense. However, any period during which the party charged did 2 not usually and publicly reside within this state shall IS not 3 be considered part of the time within which the respective 4 indictments shall INDICTMENT IS REQUIRED TO be found and filed. 5 (2) Notwithstanding subsection (1), if an alleged victim was 6 under LESS THAN 18 years of age at the time of the commission 7 of the offense WAS COMMITTED, an indictment for an offense under 8 section 145c or 520b to 520g of the Michigan penal code, Act 9 No. 328 of the Public Acts of 1931, being sections 750.145c and 10 750.520b to 750.520g of the Michigan Compiled Laws 1931 PA 328, 11 MCL 750.145C AND 750.520B TO 750.520G, may be found and filed 12 within 6 20 years after the commission of the offense or by the 13 alleged victim's twenty-first birthday, whichever is later. 14 Enacting section 1.
