        A bill to amend 1990 PA 187, entitled

   "The pupil transportation act,"

   by amending section 9 (MCL 257.1809).

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

           Sec. 9.  (1) The state board of education shall regulate

 2
      pupil transportation.  The state board or its authorized repre-

 3
      sentative may review, confirm, set aside, or amend the action,

 4
      order, or decision of a school with reference to the routes over

 5
      which pupils shall be transported, and the suitability and number

 6
      of the vehicles and equipment for the transportation of the

 7
      pupils.

           (2) AFTER CONSULTATION WITH THE PARENTS OF THE PUPILS

 9
      AFFECTED AND THE OWNERSHIP OF A MANUFACTURED HOME PARK, A SCHOOL

      MAY DETERMINE THE NUMBER AND LOCATION OF STOPS NECESSARY FOR THE

      RECEIPT AND DISCHARGE OF PUPILS FROM SCHOOL BUSES IN THAT

 2
      MANUFACTURED HOME PARK.

           (3) The  state board  SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION

 4
      shall promulgate rules as necessary to implement this act except

 5
      that the department of state police, in cooperation with the

 6
       state board  SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION, shall promul-

 7
      gate rules for safety specifications and operational procedures

 8
      for school buses and pupil transportation vehicles.
