A bill to designate March 1 of each year as children's memo- rial day in the state of Michigan. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. (1) The legislature recognizes the great number of 2 tragic deaths of schoolchildren from all causes that occur each 3 year. Each day in America 6 children and youths under age 20 4 commit suicide, 10 children and youths under age 20 are homicide 5 victims, and 35 children and youths under age 20 die from 6 accidents. Many more children die from illness. In particular, 7 the legislature notes the senseless shooting death of 6-year-old 8 Kayla Rolland in Flint, Michigan on February 29, 2000.
