A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled
"Revised judicature act of 1961,"
by amending section 916 (MCL 600.916).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 916. (1) It is
unlawful for
any person to AN INDI-
2 VIDUAL SHALL NOT practice law,
or to
engage in the law busi-
3 ness, or in
any manner whatsoever to
lead others to believe
4 that he THE
INDIVIDUAL is authorized
to practice law or to
5 engage in the law business, or in any
manner whatsoever to rep-
6 resent or designate himself OR HERSELF as an attorney and coun-
7 selor, attorney at law, or lawyer,
unless the person so doing
8 INDIVIDUAL is
regularly licensed and
authorized to practice law
9 in this state. Any person
AN
INDIVIDUAL who violates the
10 provisions of
this section is guilty of
contempt of the supreme
11 court and of the circuit court of the county in which the

1 violation occurred, and upon conviction is punishable as provided
2 by law. This section does not apply
to
a person AN INDIVIDUAL
3 who is duly
licensed and authorized to
practice law in another
4 state while temporarily in this state and engaged in a particular
5 matter.
6 (2) NOTWITHSTANDING SUBSECTION (1), AN OFFICER OR EMPLOYEE
7 OF A PERSON THAT OWNS A MOBILE HOME PARK MAY REPRESENT THE PERSON
8 IN A CIVIL ACTION RELATED TO THE MOBILE HOME PARK, REGARDLESS OF
9 WHETHER THE OFFICER OR EMPLOYEE IS LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW IN
10 THIS STATE.
