ADDENDUM TO SENATE FISCAL AGENCY ANALYSIS OF SB 67, 103 AND 104 DATED 2-13-01:

HOUSE COMMITTEE ACTION:

The Revised Judicature Act (MCL 600.2162) specifies that spousal privileges and the communications privilege do not apply in a divorce suit. The House committee adopted an amendment to Senate Bill 104 that would extend the exemption to include a suit for separate maintenance or a suit for annulment. The committee did not amend Senate Bills 67 and 103.

POSITIONS:

The Arc, Michigan, an advocacy group for the developmentally disabled, supports the bills. (3-6-01)

The Mental Health Association in Michigan supports the bills. (3-6-01)

The Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards supports the bills. (3-6-01)

The Michigan Catholic Conference has no position on the bills. (3-6-01)
