CREATE STATE CEMETERY

FOR VETERANS

House Bill 4073

Sponsor: Rep. Paul Wojno

Committee: Veterans Affairs

Complete to 2-12-01

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4073 AS INTRODUCED 1-31-01

The bill would create a new law, the "state veterans cemetery act," to authorize the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to acquire land for a veterans' cemetery, to require the Veterans Affairs Directorate to administer a veteran's cemetery created under the proposed law, and to require the legislature to appropriate sufficient money to do this.

More specifically, the bill would authorize the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to acquire and buy land suitable for a veteran's cemetery and to accept money or gifts from any source in order to do this. The Veterans Affairs Directorate would be required to apply for and to accept all grants available under the national cemetery system, and to administer - and to comply with all federal laws and regulations in so doing - a veteran's cemetery created under the proposed law. Finally the bill would require the legislature to appropriate sufficient money to accomplish the purpose of the proposed law.
