STATE VETERANS' CEMETERY

House Bill 4225

Sponsor: Rep. Ken Bradstreet

Committee: Veterans' Affairs

Complete to 5-31-01

A REVISED SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4225 AS INTRODUCED 2-14-01

The bill would create a new act, the "state veterans cemetery act," and would authorize the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to "acquire and purchase" land in Crawford County suitable for such a cemetery and to accept money or gifts from any source to do so.

The bill also would require the Veterans Affairs Directorate in the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to apply for, and accept, all grants available under the National Cemetery System (under section 2408 [Aid to States for establishment, expansion, and improvement of veterans' cemeteries] of Title 38 [Veterans Benefits] of the United States Code, 38 U.S.C. 2408), and to administer the veterans' cemetery created under the proposed act in compliance with all federal laws and regulations.

Finally, the bill would require the legislature to appropriate sufficient money to accomplish the proposed act's purpose.
