A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4243 AS INTRODUCED 2-14-01
Under the Liquor Control Code, law enforcement officers or public officers charged with enforcing state or federal penal laws generally cannot hold liquor licenses. However, the code does allow nonprofit fraternal organizations whose membership is not composed totally of law enforcement personnel or public officeholders charged with enforcing state or federal penal laws to be issued a "club" license under the code if the organization is otherwise qualified. The bill would amend the code to allow such fraternal nonprofit organizations to hold either a club license or a Class C license. A "class C license" is defined in the code to mean "a place licensed to sell at retail beer, wine, mixed spirit drink, and spirits for consumption on the premises
