A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4531 AS INTRODUCED 3-27-01

House Bill 4531 would amend the Revised School Code to require the officials of a public school to ensure that each notice pertaining to a student that is provided to the custodial parent of a pupil is also provided to the non-custodial parent. This requirement would apply if the non-custodial parent had notified school officials of his or her desire to receive notices, and had provided school officials with a current address where notices should be sent. Under the bill, the notice requirement would not apply to a non-custodial parent if school officials had notice that the parent was prohibited from having access to the student's school records (or other information) by a protective order.
