A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4560 AS INTRODUCED 4-17-01

Public Act 372 of 1927 regulates and licenses the sale, purchase, and possession of certain firearms. Under the act, certain persons are exempted from the requirements to obtain a license to carry a concealed pistol; for example, a peace officer and members of the military carrying a concealed pistol in the line of duty. The act also exempts a person employed by the Department of Corrections who has been authorized in writing by the director of the department to carry a concealed pistol during the performance of his or her duties or while going to or returning from his or her duties. House Bill 4560 would expand the licensing exemption to include a parole officer employed by the department.
