A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4756 AS INTRODUCED 5-10-01

House Bill 4756 would amend Public Act 214 of 1931, the Felonious Driving Law. Under the law, a person is guilty of felonious driving when he or she drives any vehicle on a highway carelessly and heedlessly, in willful and wanton disregard of the rights or safety of others, or without due caution and circumspection and at a speed or in a manner that endangers, or is likely to endanger, people or property and thereby results in an injury that cripples a person but does not cause death. The offense is punishable by imprisonment for not more than two years, or a fine of not more than $1,000, or both. House Bill 4756 would retain all of these provisions, and extend them to drivers who operated vehicles in the same manner on a highway "or other place open to the general public or generally accessible to motor vehicles, including an area designated for the parking of vehicles."
