A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4964 AS INTRODUCED 6-14-01

Currently, if a motorist fails to produce evidence of proof of automotive insurance when so requested by a law enforcement officer, the court may require the person to surrender his or her driver's license unless proof of insurance is submitted to the court. If the person does submit proof of insurance to the court, the court is required to assess a $25 fee in addition to the civil fine and costs. The bill would eliminate this $25 fine.
