A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5000 AS INTRODUCED 6-28-01
House Bill 5000 would amend the Insurance Code to add a provision directing the commissioner of the Office of Financial and Insurance Services to convene a task force to review current automobile insurance laws and regulations and the marketing, affordability, and accessibility of automobile insurance in the state. The task force, which would be convened by January 1, 2002, would include representatives of the general public, the automobile insurance industry, and the legislature. The task force would be required to report its findings and its recommendations on increasing access to affordable automobile insurance coverage-especially for urban populations-to the Senate and House of Representatives standing committees on insurance issues by January 1, 2003.
