PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDITED AS PUPIL INSTRUCTION

House Bill 5209

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5209 AS INTRODUCED 10-16-01

Currently, the State School Aid Act specifies that beginning in 2000-2001, a school district can count up to 51 hours of professional development for teachers as hours of pupil instruction. A district that elects to use this exception must notify the Department of Education. House Bill 5209 would amend this provision to specify that any professional development hours scheduled for the week of September 10, 2001, but then canceled due to the extraordinary circumstances of that week, could be counted as if they had been held.
