PILOT FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE PARENT CENTERS
House Bill 5242
Sponsor: Rep. Vander Veen
Committee: Family and Children Services
Complete to 11-7-01
A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5242 AS INTRODUCED 10-16-01
House Bill 5242 would amend the Foster Care and Adoption Services Act to require the Family Independence Agency to implement a pilot program establishing foster and adoptive parent resource centers. Under the pilot program, the FIA would establish at least four, but no more than six, resource centers. Each center would provide support and coordination for respite care and assistance to foster parents in obtaining day care. In addition, resource center staff would pursue other activities designed to promote permanency for children, especially those children with special needs, such as support aimed at retaining foster parents. The bill would permit the FIA to fund the centers with funds appropriated for post adoption incentives and from strong family/safe children funds, within the FIA budget.
