A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5289 AS INTRODUCED 10-18-02

The Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act (Public Act 69 of 1997) regulates casino gaming operations within the state. There are, however, a number of circumstances in which the act does not apply. Among others, the act does not apply to the pari-mutuel system of wagering used in connection with race meetings, as authorized under the Horse Racing Law of 1995 (Public Act 279).

The bill would continue to exempt the pari-mutuel system of wagering at race meetings from the provisions of the act. However, the bill would add that the exemption would not apply to a pari-mutuel system of wagering authorized under Part 5 of the Horse Racing Law, which pertains to the conduct of keno operations at a race meeting, and which would be added to the Horse Racing Law of 1995 by House Bill 6142.

The bill is tie-barred to Senate Bills 565 - 569, which are identical to House Bills 5284 - 5288.
