A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5318 AS INTRODUCED 10-23-01

Currently under the law, a driver licensee must have an operator's license or a receipt for the license (if the license has been surrendered to a court following accusation of a misdemeanor or ordinance violation) "in his or her immediate possession," and also display the license upon a police officer's demand. House Bill 5318 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to require that a driver licensee have an operator's or chauffeur's license, or a receipt for that license, "in his or her vehicle" at all times when operating the vehicle, and also to display the license (or receipt) upon demand of any police officer.
