The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act to add certain circuit and district judgeships, and to eliminate certain judgeships, effective January 1, 2003 (except where, as noted, elimination of a judgeship would occur upon a vacancy or retirement). New judgeships must be approved by the local governments that fund each court. Additions and deletions would be as follows:
· 3rd Circuit Court - Wayne County. The 3rd Judicial Circuit consists of Wayne County and has 64 judges. The bill would eliminate two judgeships.
· 6th Circuit Court - Oakland County. The 6th Judicial Circuit consists of Oakland County and has 17 judges. The bill would add two judgeships.
· 7th Circuit Court - Genesee County. The 7th Judicial Circuit consists of Genesee County and has 7 judges. The bill would add one judgeship.
· 16th Circuit Court - Macomb County. The 16th Judicial Circuit consists of Macomb County and has nine judges. The bill would add two judgeships.
· 17th Circuit Court - Kent County. The 17th Judicial Circuit consists of Kent County and has seven judges. The bill would add two judgeships.
· 21st Circuit Court - Isabella County. The 21st Judicial Circuit consists of Isabella County and has one judge. The bill would add one judgeship.
· 30th District Court - Highland Park. The 30th District is a district of the third class and has two judges. The bill would eliminate one judgeship, either when a vacancy occurs in the office of district judge, or at the end of the term of an incumbent judge who is not eligible to seek reelection, whichever occurs earlier.
