A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5569 AS INTRODUCED 1-22-02

Public Act 3 of 1939, the Public Service Commission enabling act, established the Public Service Commission to regulate the state's public utilities. Public Act 156 of 2000 added several sections to the PSC act to provide for the restructuring of the state's electric power industry; these provisions are collectively known as the "Customer Choice and Electricity Reliability Act." House Bill 5569 would amend the Customer Choice and Electricity Reliability Act (MCL 460.10dd) to require the owner of a multiresidential dwelling that has individual gas or electric meters for each dwelling unit to permit each resident of each unit to select his or her own electric supplier.
