A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5581 AS INTRODUCED 1-30-02

Public Act 499 of 2000 created the Elder Prescription Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program to provide prescription drug coverage, including related supplies, to eligible seniors. An individual or married couple who meets the basic eligibility criteria described in the act (e.g., age and income level) may apply for enrollment in the EPIC program by annually applying to the Department of Community Health. A nonrefundable administrative fee of $25 must be included with the application.

The bill would amend Public Act 499 to make the administrative fee refundable and require the department to return the fee to an applicant who the department determined was not eligible for the EPIC program.
