A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5675 AS INTRODUCED 2-19-02
House Bill 5675 would amend the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act to set a 25-cent per ton fee for taking sand or gravel from state land, or from under the Great Lakes.
More specifically and under the bill, the department could not charge more than 25 cents per short ton for the taking of sand or gravel from state-owned lands, or from or under the beds of the Great Lakes or the connecting and connected bays, harbors, or waterways of the Great Lakes, for use in the construction, improvement, or repair of public highways, roads, or streets. Further, the bill specifies that in the year 2012 and every tenth year thereafter, the department would be required to review the dollar amount, and submit to the legislature a report on its findings and any recommendation to revise the 25 cent per short ton fee.
