House Bill 5679

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5679 AS INTRODUCED 2-19-02
House Bill 5679 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to allow amateur radio operators to pay for and receive two identical specialty registration plates having the words "amateur radio operator" inscribed on them. If an applicant applied for an identical plate, he or she would be required to pay an additional $2. In addition, the bill would update the classes of amateur radio operators eligible for the second plate.
Currently one specialty plate is available for applicants who hold an unexpired technician, general, conditional, advanced, or extra class amateur radio license issued by the Federal Communications Commission, if they pay a $2 fee. Under the bill, these classes would be eliminated and instead, two specialty plates would be available, after payment of a $2 fee for each, for applicants who held an unexpired technician class, technician plus class, general class, advanced operator class, or amateur extra operator class license.
