A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6048 AS INTRODUCED 3-12-02
House Bill 6048 would amend the Revised School Code to provide that the mayor of Detroit would appoint the seven members of the school reform board. Currently the mayor appoints six of the seven members, and the seventh member who serves is the superintendent of public instruction or his or her designee. Under the law, this appointment process of the Detroit school reform board was established in 1999, and it will last for a period of five years after the date of the initial appointments.
