A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6071 AS INTRODUCED 5-9-02

Public Act 98 of 1999 amended the Michigan Renaissance Zone Act to allow the board of the Michigan Strategic Fund to create up to five renaissance zones with the consent of the city, village, or township or combination of cities, villages, or townships in which the zone would be located. House Bill 6071 would amend the renaissance zone act to allow the strategic fund's board to designate one of those five zones as an alternative energy zone dedicated to the support, research, development, enhancement, and manufacturing of alternative energy technology. An alternative energy zone could have renaissance zone status for a period not exceeding 20 years, as determined by the strategic fund.
