A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6166 AS INTRODUCED 6-4-02

House Bill 6166 would create a new act to abolish a wife's dower right, upon the death of her husband, to a life estate in one-third of any land that the husband owned in fee during his lifetime. The act would declare the right to be unenforceable through statute or common law. The act would also state that it would not affect, limit, or void any contractual or other legal rights that the wife otherwise possesses or acquires during marriage.
