A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6349 AS INTRODUCED 9-18-02
Public Act 381 of 2000 amended the handgun licensure act (Public Act 372 of 1927) to revise the way citizens apply for and receive licenses to carry a concealed pistol. An applicant for a license must, among other things, have his or her fingerprints taken by the county sheriff and pay a fee of $15. The sheriff is required to submit one set of fingerprints to the Department of State Police for a state criminal history check, and another set of fingerprints to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a federal criminal history check.
The statute provides that a license to carry a concealed pistol is valid for three years and may be renewed in the same manner as the original license was granted. House Bill 6349 would amend the act to specify that fingerprints would not be required for a renewal license.
