FY 2001-02 DEPARTMENT OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT BUDGET - BOILERPLATE HIGHLIGHTS
Changes from FY 2001-02 Senate-Passed:
1. General Sections. The House changed notice for privatization to 90 days (Sec. 207), changed Buy American to require Preference for Michigan based products (Sec. 209), and added a new section requiring a report on all balances of Restricted Fund sources (Sec. 215).
2. Work First. The House changed the allowable prep time limit for GED passage from 10 to 12 months. (Sec. 304)
3. State Employees. The House maintained language requiring the department to work with recently unemployed State employees and provide job training and search services. (Sec. 327)
4. Michigan Works! Service Centers. The House deleted language requiring the funds appropriated be used to provide sufficient funds to allow these centers to remain operational.
5. Pre-college Programs for the Engineering and Sciences. The House reduced the amount for the Jackson area program by $100. (Sec. 309)
6. Adult Education Learning Grants. The House deleted the allocation to the American Arab Chaldean Community Outreach Services, Inc. (Sec.322)
7. Assistive Technology Fund. The House added new language requiring funding for this program be allocated to the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition to support the development of a loan fund. (Sec. 324)
8. Employment Services. The House added new language requiring the Department to work with the Unemployment Agency to develop a pilot program in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties to create a database with claimant profiles to be made available to private companies that provide employment services. 9. One Stop Centers. The House added language requiring the Department to work towards ensuring the One Stop Centers are capable of assisting individuals that inquire about unemployment benefits and the remote initial claims system. (Sec. 326)
