PAVEMENT NOISE STUDY - S.B. 563: COMMITTEE SUMMARY
Senate Bill 563 (as introduced 6-26-01)
Sponsor: Senator Thaddeus G. McCotter
Committee: Transportation and Tourism
Date Completed: 9-25-01
CONTENT
Senate Bill 563 would amend the Michigan Transportation Fund law to require that the Michigan Department of Transportation develop and implement a noise study to determine the difference in decibel level between concrete and asphalt pavement. The study would have to align examples of the test pavements side by side so that decibel levels could be more accurately measured.
Proposed MCL 247.651i - Legislative Analyst: C. Layman
FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would result in an indeterminate increase in State costs associated with the requirement that the Michigan Department of Transportation conduct a pavement noise analysis study of the difference between concrete and asphalt. The actual costs of the study are unknown at this time and would be contingent on the length, scope, and design of the study. It is also unknown at this time whether Federal resources could be used to support a portion of such a study.
