OVERSIZE VEHICLE PERMITS - S.B. 694: ENROLLED SUMMARY

Senate Bill 694 (as enrolled) - PUBLIC ACT 653 of 2002

Sponsor: Senator George A. McManus, Jr.

Senate Committee: Farming, Agribusiness and Food Systems

House Committee: Transportation

Date Completed: 1-17-03

CONTENT

The bill amended the Michigan Vehicle Code to include Saturdays in the days when farm implement dealers may transport oversized farm machinery or implements, under permits issued by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

Section 725a of the Code allows MDOT, upon application, to issue annual permits authorizing farm implement dealers to transport (by truck, truck tractor, semitrailer, or trailer) farm machinery or implements that are wider or higher than authorized by the Code, on a State highway during daylight hours. The bill specifies "including Saturday".

Previously, this transportation had to be permitted under rules promulgated pursuant to Section 716 (which sets vehicle size, weight, and load restrictions). Under the bill, the transportation must be otherwise permitted under rules promulgated pursuant to Section 716 that do not conflict with Section 725a.
