WEEKEND OVERSIZE VEHICLE PERMITS - S.B. 694: COMMITTEE SUMMARY
Senate Bill 694 (as introduced 10-9-01)
Sponsor: Senator George A. McManus, Jr.
Committee: Farming, Agribusiness and Food Systems
Date Completed: 2-19-02
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to require the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to issue, upon application, annual permits authorizing a farm implement dealer to transport farm machinery by oversize vehicles on a State highway during daylight hours, including Saturday and Sunday.
Currently, the Code allows, but does not require, MDOT to issue upon application annual permits for hauling farm machinery by oversize vehicles, and does not specify the days of the week. The bill would retain a requirement that the transportation be permitted under rules promulgated pursuant to Section 716 of the Code, which sets the size, weight, and load restrictions for vehicles. The bill would refer to rules promulgated under Section 716 that did not conflict with Section 725a, the section that would be amended by the bill.
