CONTENT
House Bill 6054 (H-2) would amend the Michigan Merit Award Scholarship Act to allow the funding of the Nursing Scholarship Program from the Michigan Merit Award Trust Fund. The Nursing Scholarship Program would be created in Senate Bill 793. Senate Bill 793 is currently before the Senate under the order of Messages from the House. Passage of House Bill 6054 (H-2) would add the Nursing Scholarship Program to a list of other programs to be funded from the Michigan Merit Award Trust Fund, including Michigan Merit Award Scholarships, the costs associated with the Michigan Merit Award assessment test and the Tuition Incentive Program. The Act also provides that the Legislature may appropriate Michigan Merit Award Trust Fund revenues for any other purpose. House Bill 6054 (H-2) is tie-barred to Senate Bill 793.
FISCAL IMPACT
The FY 2002-03 Higher Education appropriation bill (Public Act 144 of 2002) provides for a $4.0 million appropriation from the Michigan Merit Award Trust Fund for the Nursing Scholarship Program.
