A bill to amend 1947 PA 359, entitled "The charter township act," by amending section 31 (MCL 42.31). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 31. Each charter township may make local or public 2 improvements bythepavingofstreetswhichTHAT are not a 3 part of the county highway system,thelayingofcurbs and 4 gutters,theinstallingofelevated structures for foot 5 travel over highways within the township with the written 6 approval of the director of the state transportation department 7 if the highways are state highways or with the written approval 8 of the board of county road commissioners if the highways are 9 county roads,thelayingofsidewalks,the installation of10 INSTALLING solid waste disposal systems, steam generation and 11 distribution,thepavingofstreetswhichTHAT are a part 00875'01 KDD 2 1 of the county highway system with the consent of and according to 2 specifications of the county road commission,thelayingof3 storm and sanitary sewers AND SEPARATING STORM WATER DRAINAGE AND 4 FOOTING DRAINS FROM SANITARY SEWERS ON PRIVATELY OWNED PROPERTY 5 FOR A PUBLIC PURPOSE,the installation ofINSTALLING water sys- 6 tems, andthe installation ofINSTALLING street and highway 7 lighting systems, and further may maintain or operatethe same8 THESE IMPROVEMENTS. The township board of each charter township 9 may determine the necessity of the local or public improvement 10 and may determine that the whole or any part of the expense of 11 the local or public improvement shall be defrayed by special 12 assessment upon lands abutting upon and adjacent to or otherwise 13 benefited by the improvement., theA SPECIAL assessmentto14 UNDER THIS SECTION SHALL be made in all respects as provided for 15 the making of special assessments underAct No. 188 of the16Public Acts of 1954, as amended, being sections 41.721 to 41.73717of the Michigan Compiled Laws1954 PA 188, MCL 41.721 TO 18 41.738.
