A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 482 (MCL 168.482), as amended by 1998 PA 142. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 482. (1) Each petition SHEET under this section shall 2 be EITHER 8-1/2 inches by 14 inches OR 8-1/2 INCHES BY 11 INCHES 3 in size, IN EITHER HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL FORMAT, AND SHALL CON- 4 TAIN NO FEWER THAN 2 SIGNATURE LINES. 5 (2) If the measure PROPOSAL to be submitted proposes IS 6 a constitutional amendment, initiation of legislation, or refer- 7 endum of legislation, the heading of each part of the petition 8 shall be prepared in the following form and printed in capital 9 letters in 14-point boldfaced type: 03366'01 CAS 2 1 INITIATIVE PETITION 2 AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION 3 OR 4 INITIATION OF LEGISLATION 5 OR 6 REFERENDUM OF LEGISLATION 7 PROPOSED BY INITIATIVE PETITION 8 (3) The full text of the amendment so proposed PROPOSAL 9 shall follow and be printed in 8-point type. If the proposal 10 would alter or abrogate an existing provision of the constitu- 11 tion, the petition shall so state and the provisions to be 12 altered or abrogated shall be inserted, preceded by the words: 13 "Provisions of existing constitution altered or abrogated by 14 the proposal if adopted." 15 (4) The following statement shall appear beneath the peti- 16 tion heading: 17 "We, the undersigned qualified and registered electors, res- 18 idents in the 19 city 20 township (strike 1) of .......... 21 in the county of .........., state of Michigan, respectively 22 petition for (amendment to constitution) (initiation of 23 legislation) (referendum of legislation) (other appropriate 24 description)." 25 (5) The following warning shall be printed in 12-point type 26 immediately above the place for signatures, on each part of the 27 petition: 03366'01 3 1 WARNING 2 A person who knowingly signs this petition more than once, 3 signs a name other than his or her own, signs when not a quali- 4 fied and registered elector, or sets opposite his or her signa- 5 ture on a petition, a date other than the actual date the signa- 6 ture was affixed, is violating the provisions of the Michigan 7 election law. 8 (6) The remainder of the petition form shall be as provided 9 following the warning to electors signing the petition in section 10 544c(1).
