A bill to consolidate prior acts naming certain Michigan highways; to provide for the naming of certain highways; to pre- scribe certain duties of the state transportation department; and to repeal acts and parts of acts and certain resolutions. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the 2 "Michigan memorial highway act". 3 Sec. 2. The state transportation department shall only pro- 4 vide for the erection of suitable markers at the approach of any 5 of the highways described in this act when sufficient private 6 contributions are received to pay the cost of erecting those 7 markers. 8 Sec. 3. The portion of highways US-223, M-34, and M-99 9 beginning at the state line and extending north through Calhoun, 02675'01 * MRM 2 1 Hillsdale, Lenawee, and Monroe counties to the city of Homer 2 shall be known as "Carleton Road". 3 Sec. 4. The portion of highway US-23 beginning in the city 4 of Saginaw and extending north to the city of Bay City shall be 5 known as the "Roberts-Linton Highway" and as the "Veterans of 6 World War I Memorial Highway". 7 Sec. 5. The portion of highway M-43 beginning in the city 8 of East Lansing and extending west to the city of Grand Ledge 9 shall be known as the "Frank D. Fitzgerald Memorial Highway". 10 Sec. 6. Highway M-53 shall be known as the "Earle Memorial 11 Highway". 12 Sec. 7. The portion of highway US-23 beginning at the state 13 line and extending to the city of Mackinaw City shall be known as 14 the "United Spanish War Veterans' Memorial Highway". 15 Sec. 8. The portion of US-2 beginning in St. Ignace and 16 extending west to Gladstone, the portion of M-35 beginning in 17 Gladstone and extending south to Wells, the portion of US-2 and 18 M-41 beginning at Wells and extending west to Hermansville, the 19 portion of US-2 beginning at Hermansville and extending west to 20 Iron Mountain, the portion of M-95 beginning at Iron Mountain and 21 extending north to Sagola, the portion of M-69 beginning at 22 Sagola and extending west to Crystal Falls, and the portion of 23 US-2 beginning in Crystal Falls and continuing west to Ironwood 24 shall be known as the "United Spanish War Veterans Memorial 25 Highway". 02675'01 * 3 1 Sec. 9. The portion of highway M-95 beginning at the 2 Michigan-Wisconsin state line and extending north to Champion 3 shall be known as the "Leif Erikson Memorial Highway". 4 Sec. 10. Highway M-107 shall be known as the "107th 5 Engineer Memorial Road". 6 Sec. 11. The portion of highway US-31 beginning at the 7 Michigan-Indiana state line and extending to the Straits of 8 Mackinac shall be known as the "Blue Star Memorial Highway". 9 Sec. 12. The portion of highway US-12 beginning in the city 10 of Detroit and extending west to the city of New Buffalo and 11 ending at Lake Michigan shall be known as the "Pulaski Memorial 12 Highway". 13 Sec. 13. The portion of M-125 beginning at the border 14 between Michigan and Ohio and extending northeast to the inter- 15 section with M-24 and the portion of M-24 beginning at the inter- 16 section of M-125 and extending northeast to the city of Detroit 17 shall be known as the "Clara Barton Memorial Highway". 18 Sec. 14. The part of highway US-31 beginning at the county 19 line of Muskegon and Oceana counties and extending north to the 20 county line of Mason and Manistee counties shall be known as the 21 "Pere Marquette Memorial Highway". 22 Sec. 15. The portion of M-102 from Grand River avenue in 23 Farmington, Michigan, and extending east to M-3, shall be known 24 as the "Columbus Memorial Highway". 25 Sec. 16. The portion of highway US-2 and highway US-41 and 26 highway M-35 beginning at the north city limits of Escanaba and 27 extending north 1-1/10 miles to the junction of County Road 02675'01 * 4 1 No. 426, also known as the extension of Sheridan avenue, shall be 2 known as the "AmVets Memorial Drive". 3 Sec. 17. (1) The portion of highway M-66 beginning at the 4 intersection with highway M-78 and extending north to the inter- 5 section with highway US-131 shall be known as the "Green Arrow 6 Route". 7 (2) The portion of highway US-131 beginning at the 8 Michigan-Indiana state line and extending north to the intersec- 9 tion with highway M-66 shall be known as the "Mackinac Trail". 10 (3) The portion of highway US-131 beginning at the intersec- 11 tion of highway US-131 and highway M-66 and extending north to 12 the intersection of highway US-131 and US-31 and the section of 13 highway US-31 beginning at the intersection of highway US-31 and 14 highway US-131 and extending north to the straits of Mackinac 15 shall be known as the "Green Arrow Route-Mackinac Trail". 16 (4) Any portion of the highways identified in this section 17 that have previously been designated as a memorial highway shall 18 continue to carry the previous designations in addition to the 19 designations under this section. 20 Sec. 18. The portion of highway business loop I-94 located 21 in Kalamazoo county shall be known as the "AmVets Memorial 22 Parkway". 23 Sec. 19. The portion of highway business loop I-696 located 24 in Oakland and Macomb counties between the intersections of 8 25 Mile road and Telegraph road shall be known as the "Adler 26 Memorial Highway". 02675'01 * 5 1 Sec. 20. The portion of highway I-75 beginning at the 2 Michigan-Ohio state line and extending north to Sault Ste. Marie 3 shall be known as the "American Legion Memorial Highway". 4 Sec. 21. The portion of highway I-475 that is in Genesee 5 county shall be known as the "David Dunbar Buick Freeway". 6 Sec. 22. The portion of highway I-69 beginning at the 7 Shiawassee-Genesee county line and extending west to the Genesee- 8 Lapeer county line shall be known as the "Louis Chevrolet 9 Freeway". 10 Sec. 23. Highway I-696 shall be known as the 11 "Walter P. Reuther Highway". 12 Sec. 24. The highway interchange at highway I-75 and the 13 Davidson highway shall be known as the "Charles J. Rogers 14 Interchange". 15 Sec. 25. That portion of highway I-496 that is within the 16 boundaries of the city limits of Lansing shall be known as the 17 "Olds Freeway". 18 Sec. 26. Highway I-196 shall be known as the 19 "Gerald R. Ford Freeway". 20 Sec. 27. The portion of highway I-75 in Cheboygan and 21 Mackinac counties shall be known as the "G. Mennen Williams 22 Highway" and the "Prentiss M. Brown Memorial Highway". 23 Sec. 28. The portion of highway M-66 that is in Calhoun 24 county shall be known as the "Sojourner Truth Memorial Highway", 25 except that that portion of M-66 between highway I-94 and Hamblin 26 shall be known as the "Sojourner Truth Downtown Parkway". 02675'01 * 6 1 Sec. 29. Highway I-275 shall be known as the 2 "Philip A. Hart Memorial Highway". 3 Sec. 30. The portion of highway M-59 beginning at the city 4 limits of the city of Pontiac and extending west to the city 5 limits of the city of Utica shall be known as the "Veterans 6 Memorial Freeway". 7 Sec. 31. The portion of highway M-53 beginning at the 8 northern boundary of the city limits of the city of Sterling 9 Heights and extending north to the village of Washington in 10 Macomb county shall be known as the "Christopher Columbus 11 Freeway". 12 Sec. 32. The portion of highway I-69 between the western 13 city limits of the city of Flint and the eastern city limits of 14 the city of Port Huron shall be known as the "Veterans Memorial 15 Highway". 16 Sec. 33. Highway I-69 in Genesee county shall be known as 17 the "Chevrolet-Buick Freeway". 18 Sec. 34. The portion of highway I-69 beginning at the east- 19 ern boundary of the city limits of the city of Lapeer and extend- 20 ing east until the Western boundary of the city of Port Huron 21 shall be known as the "DeWayne T. Williams Memorial Highway". 22 Sec. 35. The portion of highway I-75 that is within the 23 state of Michigan shall be known as the "American Legion Memorial 24 Highway". 25 Sec. 36. Highway I-94 business loop in the city of Albion 26 shall be known as the "Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial 27 Highway". 02675'01 * 7 1 Sec. 37. Highway M-28 beginning at the intersection of 2 highway M-28 and highway M-123 and extending northwest to the 3 eastern city limits of the city of Negaunee shall be known as the 4 "Jacobetti Highway". 5 Sec. 38. The portion of highway M-121 that is in Genesee 6 county shall be known as the "Disabled American Veterans 7 Highway". 8 Sec. 39. The portion of highway M-96 beginning at the 9 intersection with business loop I-94 and extending east to the 10 village of Augusta shall be known as the "Fort Custer Memorial 11 Highway". 12 Sec. 40. The portion of highway M-125 in Monroe county 13 shall be known as "Veterans Memorial Road". 14 Sec. 41. Highway US-31, business route, also known as 15 Seaway Drive, beginning at the intersection of US-31, business 16 route and Spring street in Muskegon and continuing to the inter- 17 section of highway US-31 and Getty street in Muskegon shall be 18 known as the "Moses J. Jones Parkway". 19 Sec. 42. The portion of highway M-59 between I-96 on the 20 west and highway M-3 on the east, except for the portion of M-59 21 in Monroe county that is otherwise named the "Veterans Memorial 22 Freeway", shall be known as the "Vietnam Veterans Memorial 23 Highway". 24 Sec. 43. Highway I-96 shall be known as the "AmVets 25 Memorial Highway". 02675'01 * 8 1 Sec. 44. The portion of highway I-75 that is within Wayne 2 and Oakland counties shall be known as the "Walter P. Chrysler 3 Freeway". 4 Sec. 45. The portion of highway M-38 beginning at the 5 Ontonagon village limits and extending easterly to the Houghton 6 county line shall be known as the "Joseph H. Meagher Memorial 7 Highway". 8 Sec. 46. The portion of highway US-127 beginning at the 9 north county line of Jackson county and extending to the inter- 10 section of highway US-127 and highway I-94 shall be known as the 11 "Haskell L. Nichols Memorial Highway". 12 Sec. 47. Highway M-117 between M-28 and US-2 is named in 13 honor of the 117th quartermaster battalion. 14 Sec. 48. Highway US-12 shall be known as the "Iron Brigade 15 Memorial Highway". 16 Sec. 49. The portion of highway US-31 beginning at the 17 Michigan-Indiana state line and extending north to the intersec- 18 tion of US-31 with I-94 in Berrien county shall be known as the 19 "St. Joseph Valley Parkway". 20 Sec. 50. The portion of highway M-37 beginning at the 21 intersection of highway M-37 and US-10 in Lake county and extend- 22 ing north to the county line of Lake county and Wexford county 23 shall be known as the "World War II Veterans Memorial Highway". 24 Sec. 51. Highway I-275 north of the Livonia intersection of 25 I-275 and I-96 shall be known as the "Disabled American Veterans 26 Memorial Highway". 02675'01 * 9 1 Sec. 52. The portion of highway M-85 located in the city of 2 Detroit between Outer drive and highway I-75 shall also be known 3 as "Matt McNeely Boulevard". 4 Sec. 53. The portion of highway M-6 located within Kent and 5 Ottawa counties shall be known as the "Paul B. Henry Freeway". 6 Sec. 54. The part of highway M-5 located in the area lying 7 between the interchange of highways I-96, I-696, and I-275 and 8 8 Mile road in the city of Farmington Hills and the city of 9 Farmington shall be known as the "Keith Deacon Memorial 10 Highway". 11 Sec. 55. The part of the bypass of highway US-131 that is 12 located between M-115 and Boon road in Wexford county shall be 13 known as the "Sydney Ouwinga Memorial Bypass". 14 Sec. 56. The part of highway M-33 located in Ogemaw and 15 Oscoda counties between Houghton Creek road and Miller road shall 16 be known as the "Veterans' Memorial Drive". 17 Sec. 57. The part of highway M-32 between Ripley boulevard 18 and Bagley street in the city of Alpena shall be known as the 19 "Veterans' Memorial Highway". 20 Sec. 99.
