A bill to amend 1976 PA 69, entitled "An act to permit the secretary of state to acquire and operate state historic sites; to accept gifts for that purpose; and to permit investment in certain funds to carry out the purposes of this act," by amending the title and sections 1, 2, and 3 (MCL 399.111, 399.112, and 399.113). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 TITLE 2 An act to permit the secretary of state DEPARTMENT OF HIS- 3 TORY, ARTS, AND CULTURE to acquire and operate state historic 4 sites; to accept gifts for that purpose; and to permit investment 5 in certain funds to carry out the purposes of this act. 6 Sec. 1. The secretary of state DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY, 7 ARTS, AND CULTURE may acquire and maintain historic sites for use 8 by the public. The secretary of state DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY, 03785'01 JCB 2 1 ARTS, AND CULTURE may take RECEIVE lands or rights to lands in 2 the name of the state and for the benefit of the public by either 3 purchase or gift. The secretary of state DEPARTMENT OF HISTO- 4 RY, ARTS, AND CULTURE may enter into contracts for the purchase 5 of historic sites listed on the state register of historic sites, 6 and on fulfillment of the terms and conditions in a contract may 7 accept a deed or deeds. 8 Sec. 2. The secretary of state DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY, 9 ARTS, AND CULTURE may receive and hold in trust for the state a 10 grant or devise of land or rights in land and a gift or bequest 11 of money or other nonhistoric personal property made for the pur- 12 poses of this act. If money or other personal property is 13 received, the property shall be appraised at current market value 14 and be turned over to the state treasurer who shall preserve and 15 invest , upon approval of the secretary of state, the funds 16 received in securities which banks are permitted to invest in 17 ALL MONEY AND PROPERTY RECEIVED AS PROVIDED BY LAW. The invested 18 funds shall be known as the state historic site fund and the pro- 19 ceeds shall be used and expended under the direction of the 20 secretary of state DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY, ARTS, AND CULTURE to 21 carry out the purposes of this act. 22 Sec. 3. Any municipality may transfer the care and control 23 of an A historic site or property suitable as an A historic 24 site to the secretary of state DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY, ARTS, AND 25 CULTURE. The transfer shall be upon terms and for a period of 26 time as may be mutually agreed upon. 03785'01 3 1 Enacting section 1.
