A bill to amend 1984 PA 152, entitled "Michigan iron industry museum advisory board act," by amending the title and sections 3 and 4 (MCL 399.73 and 399.74), the title and section 3 as amended by 1990 PA 232. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 TITLE 2 An act to create the Michigan iron industry museum advisory 3 board within the department ofstateHISTORY, ARTS, AND 4 CULTURE; and to prescribe its powers and duties. 5 Sec. 3. (1) The Michigan iron industry museum advisory 6 board is created within the department ofstateHISTORY, ARTS, 7 AND CULTURE. 8 (2) The advisory board shall consist of 9 members appointed 9 by the governor, including all of the following: 03789'01 JCB 2 1 (a) One representative from the city of Negaunee and 1 2 representative from the city of Marquette. 3 (b) One representative from the township of Negaunee. 4 (c) One representative from the county board of commission- 5 ers of the county of Marquette. 6 (d) One representative from the county historical society of 7 the county of Marquette. 8 (e) One representative from the mineral industry. 9 (f) Three members from the general citizenry of the state, 10 at least 1 of whom is a resident of the Upper Peninsula. 11 (3) Each member OF THE ADVISORY BOARD shall be a registered 12 voter and a resident of this state. 13 (4) Not more than 5 members OF THE ADVISORY BOARD shall be 14 of the same political party at any 1 time. 15 (5) Except for members first appointed, the term of office 16 of each member OF THE ADVISORY BOARD shall be 4 years. Of the 17 members OF THE ADVISORY BOARD first appointed under subsection 18 (2), 3 shall serve for 4 years, 3 shall serve for 3 years, and 3 19 shall serve for 2 years. Vacancies on the advisory board shall 20 be filled in the same manner as the original appointment for the 21 remainder of the unexpired term. 22 (6) A member OF THE ADVISORY BOARD shall not receive any 23 compensation for his or her services,as a member of the24advisory board,except for expenses incurred while acting as an 25 official representative of the advisory board. However, a member 26 of the advisory board shall not receive more than $75.00 per day 27 for not more than 24 days per calendar year, for not more than 2 03789'01 3 1 calendar years. All claims for expenses shall be paid pursuant 2 to voucher submitted to the department of treasury. 3 (7) The members OF THE ADVISORY BOARD annually shall elect a 4 chairperson, vice-chairperson, and secretary. 5 (8) The advisory board shall meet not less than twice each 6 calendar yearonAT THE call of the chairperson. A majority of 7 the members OF THE ADVISORY BOARD shall constitute a quorum for 8 the transaction of business. 9 Sec. 4. The advisory board shall do all of the following: 10 (a) Advise the department ofstateHISTORY, ARTS, AND 11 CULTURE as to construction of, and policies, plans, and programs 12 concerning the museum site. 13 (b) Facilitate cooperation between the department ofstate14 HISTORY, ARTS, AND CULTURE and public and private entities inter- 15 ested in historic preservation at the museum site. 16 (c) Encourage donations of real and personal property to the 17secretary of stateDEPARTMENT OF HISTORY, ARTS, AND CULTURE for 18 purposes incidental to, or connected with, the museum site, 19 including artifacts associated with the museum site. 20 (d) Promote public use of the museum site. 21 Enacting section 1.
