Williams, Ehardt, DeWeese and Garza and referred to the Committee on Transportation.


        A bill to name a certain portion of highway business route

   196 the "Cesar E. Chavez Way"; and to prescribe certain duties of

   the state transportation department.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

           Sec. 1.  That portion of highway business route 196 in the

 2
      city of Grand Rapids beginning at the intersection of business

 3
      route 196 and Franklin street and continuing south to Clyde Park

 4
      avenue shall be named the "Cesar E. Chavez Way".

 5
           Sec. 2.  The state transportation department shall only pro-

 6
      vide for the erection and maintenance of suitable markers indi-

 7
      cating the name of the highway when sufficient private contribu-

 8
      tions are received to completely cover the cost of erecting and

 9
      maintaining those markers.
