A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled "Michigan vehicle code," by amending section 217a (MCL 257.217a), as amended by 1988 PA 419. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 217a. (1) A person who holds an unexpired technician 2 CLASS, TECHNICIAN PLUS CLASS, general CLASS,conditional,3 advanced OPERATOR CLASS, or AMATEUR extra OPERATOR class amateur 4 radio license issued by the federal communications commission may 5make applicationAPPLY directly to the secretary of state for a 6 registration plate inscribed with the official amateur radio call 7 letters of the applicant as assigned by the federal communica- 8 tions commission. THE PLATE SHALL HAVE THE WORDS "AMATEUR RADIO 9 OPERATOR" INSCRIBED BENEATH THE REGISTRATION NUMBERS. 05292'01 * JJG 2 1 (2) AN APPLICANT DESCRIBED IN SUBSECTION (1) MAY, UPON 2 PAYMENT OF THE REGISTRATION FEE, RECEIVE 2 IDENTICAL REGISTRATION 3 PLATES FOR 2 DIFFERENT VEHICLES OWNED BY THE APPLICANT. 4 (3)(2)The applicant shall prove to the satisfaction of 5 the secretary of state that the applicant holds an unexpired ama- 6 teur radio license. In addition to the regular registration fee, 7 the applicant shall pay a service fee of $2.00.TheIF AN 8 APPLICANT APPLIES FOR AN IDENTICAL PLATE, AS AUTHORIZED IN 9 SUBSECTION (2), AN ADDITIONAL $2.00 FEE SHALL BE ASSESSED FOR 10 THAT PLATE. EACH $2.00 fee shall be credited to the Michigan 11 transportation fund; and, after deduction of manufacturing and 12 administrative costs, the service fee shall be allocated pursuant 13 to section 10 ofAct No. 51 of the Public Acts of 1951, being14section 247.660 of the Michigan Compiled Laws1951 PA 51, 15 MCL 247.660. A plate may be issued for a motor vehicle which 16 bears a registration issued pursuant to section 801(1)(a) and 17 (q). 18 (4)(3)If a plate issued under this section is used on a 19 vehicle other than the vehicle for which the plate was issued, 20 the owner of the plate is guilty of a misdemeanor and the regis- 21 tration plate shall be surrendered to the secretary of state. A 22 holder of a plate whose amateur radio license is not in full 23 force and effect immediately shall surrender the call letter 24 plate to the secretary of state and obtain a regular registration 25 plate. 26 (5)(4)An application for a plate issued under this 27 section shall be submitted to the secretary of statepursuant05292'01 * 3 1toUNDER section 217.
