        A bill to amend 1935 PA 59, entitled

   "An act to provide for the public safety; to create the Michigan
   state police, and provide for the organization thereof; to trans-
   fer thereto the offices, duties and powers of the state fire
   marshal, the state oil inspector, the department of the Michigan
   state police as heretofore organized, and the department of
   public safety; to create the office of commissioner of the
   Michigan state police; to provide for an acting commissioner and
   for the appointment of the officers and members of said depart-
   ment; to prescribe their powers, duties, and immunities; to pro-
   vide the manner of fixing their compensation; to provide for
   their removal from office; and to repeal Act No. 26 of the Public
   Acts of 1919, being sections 556 to 562, inclusive, of the
   Compiled Laws of 1929, and Act No. 123 of the Public Acts of
   1921, as amended, being sections 545 to 555, inclusive, of the
   Compiled Laws of 1929,"

   by amending section 7 (MCL 28.7).

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

             Sec. 7.  The director shall provide the officers of the

 2
        department with suitable uniforms, arms, equipment,  quarters,

 3
        and other NECESSARY articles,  necessary, and also the expense

 4
        and means of travel and boarding them, if necessary  AND TRAVEL

        EXPENSES.  The director shall establish and maintain local

 2
         headquarters in various places, and may do so  POSTS by agree-

 3
        ment, lease, or otherwise,  so as to best establish the depart-

 4
        ment throughout the various sections of the state where it will

 5
        be most efficient in carrying out the purpose of this act, to

 6
        preserve peace and prevent crime.  IN ALL OF THE FOLLOWING

        The director shall  fix  DETERMINE the location of the  various

14
        OTHER units of the department, prescribe the uniforms and equip-

15
        ment of all members of the department, the character of the

16
        training and discipline, and the general policy in respect to the

17
        use and employment of all members of the department.
